Revisiting Our VERY First Wedding Design: Brooke’s Gorgeous Celebration
It feels like just yesterday we were designing our VERY FIRST wedding, and today, I’m beyond excited to revisit that special day. This wedding was extra special to me because Brooke—the bride—is one of my best friends. I’ve known her for years, and let me tell you, she is truly one of the most kindhearted, talented, and beautiful people I know. From her creativity to her constant ability to amaze me with everything she does, I’m constantly in awe of her.
Brooke’s wedding was originally set for 2020, but as we all know, COVID-19 had other plans. Their wedding, along with so many others, was postponed. But in 2021, they found a way to make it happen, even though the world was still dealing with the impacts of the pandemic. It wasn’t the easiest road, but Brooke and her now-husband, Chris, made sure to focus on what mattered most—celebrating their love.
Initially, Brooke and her fiancé had planned to marry at a charming Girl Scout camp here in mid-Michigan. But with restrictions still in place and a shift in how things were being handled, they made the decision to have their wedding at Brooke’s grandma’s house. The large barn on the property provided the perfect space to gather their loved ones while still having that light, intimate vibe they envisioned.
Honestly, this change ended up being a blessing in disguise. The farm property was just perfect—so many gorgeous photo opportunities from the golden fields to the weathered barn doors and lush greenery. It truly was a photographer’s dream. Every corner of that property felt magical, and it added such a personal touch to their celebration.
Speaking of photography, Holly Clark Photography did an amazing job capturing the day. Holly and her team were an absolute pleasure to work with. If you’re in Michigan and you’re looking for wedding photographers who specialize in that dreamy, light-and-airy aesthetic, you absolutely need to check them out! The photos they took really brought the essence of the day to life in a way that felt timeless and romantic. I mean… just look at these beautiful photos of me and my Mama! I’m so happy they said, “Let’s snap a few of you two “. Thank you guys! I will cherish these images forever.
And speaking of things that made the day even more unforgettable, the couple opted for Rolling Stone Pizza Catering—and let me tell you, their pizzas and salads were to die for! If we’re ever in the Brighton, MI area, we’re definitely stopping in next time. They even had a charcuterie board on every table for guests to enjoy while the bridal party was off taking photos—such a thoughtful touch!
One of the most unique surprises came when a family member donated an ice sculpture for the event. Honestly, how often do you see that at a wedding? It was such a cool (pun intended) addition that really elevated the entire vibe of the reception.
Now, when it comes to the decor, Brooke’s vision was a gorgeous blend of boho and Scandinavian styles. She was going for a relaxed, yet elegant vibe with lots of rattan and vintage elements scattered throughout. The main goal was to make sure everything felt effortless but still visually stunning.
One of her standout choices was the high centerpieces. Brooke wanted something tall, but still wanted guests to be able to talk around the arrangements without obstruction. So, we got creative with birdbaths—yep, birdbaths! She rented these vintage-style birdbaths and topped them with lush, healthy Boston ferns, which added a natural, airy feel to the tables without overwhelming the space. It was the perfect blend of unexpected and beautiful.
She also chose rattan charger plates and mixed in vintage stainless steel flatware, goblets, and gold-rimmed china to add texture and warmth to each setting. The result was so cohesive—every element complemented each other perfectly, giving their guests a dining experience that felt both special and personal.
We love the fact that mixed items that cohesively match in color or design can look so amazing when put together. Brooke’s decision to mix rattan, vintage pieces, and soft metallics created a layered yet harmonious feel. It’s proof that you don’t need to match everything exactly—just make sure the items are in tune with the overall vibe, and it all comes together in the most beautiful way.
And let’s talk about the barn. Brooke really jazzed up that barn—it was stunning! She put so much effort into turning that space into something magical, and it was absolutely worth it. The sight of it all—surrounded by the beautiful property—was breathtaking. Honestly, I still can’t get over how perfectly everything came together.
Now, here’s a fun tidbit: I was due any day with my daughter, Veda, and as I was running around, I thought for sure I was going to go into labor right there at the wedding! I was on my feet constantly moving, helping with last-minute details, and just soaking in the excitement of it all. But hey, Veda decided to hold off a little longer, and I’m so glad I got to be part of such a beautiful day!
One of the most touching elements of the day was how Brooke honored her beloved grandma, who couldn’t be there. I made Brooke a custom charm made with her Gram’s photo on it, and it draped lovingly off her stunning bouquet. I’m sure Brooke would have traded her left arm to have Gram present, but this was such a special, heartfelt way to carry her spirit with her. It was a perfect, personal tribute to someone so dear to her heart while still being missed deeply.
Oh, and how fun were those wedding favors?! I’ll admit, after a few years, we’ve already broken ours… eek! I’ll have to see if Brooke has any more in her collection, because they were just too cute to be left in a drawer somewhere.
As I write this, I can’t help but feel emotional. We lost Pa in December 2024, and I know Brooke will appreciate me mentioning him here. Pa was such a sweet, goofy, and lovable soul—he had years of wit behind him and could always make us laugh. We all loved Pa as if he were our own grandpa, and his presence was always a warm light in any room. Losing him has been so hard, but I hope his memory continues to live on in the love and joy he gave us all. May his memory be eternal.
Being a part of their day from start to finish is something I’ll always treasure. From the very first sketches to the final walk down the aisle, I watched as their vision came to life. The whole process was full of love, laughter, and creative energy, and I couldn’t have been more honored to help bring it all together.
Looking back on that day, I’m filled with gratitude—for the friendship, the trust, and for being able to be a part of such a beautiful moment in their lives. Brooke and her husband truly created a celebration that was uniquely them, and the love they share was evident in every detail. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for them!
I Love you Best Friend <3
